Elvis Presley Challenge 2008

In 2006, I ordered sight-unseen a whole lot of Elvis Presley fabric. It had been a few years since Shamash had printed some really nice Elvis fabric. People had been asking for Elvis, so I thought it would be a hot seller. WRONG! This fabric was arguably the ugliest collection I've ever seen. Months went by, and we sold some, but nowhere near all of it. Meantime, we hadn't had a challenge for a couple of years, and customers were asking if we were ever going to do it again.

So, in November 2007, we made challenge bundles from the big Elvis inventory and issued a challenge to quilters: Pick a song recorded by Elvis, and design a quilt around it. I didn't want to get a couple dozen quilts featuring this ugly fabric, so the rules said it had to be somewhere, but the back was just fine!

We received 39 entries, and they are incredible! Some people did more than one song title in their quilt.
